Visit us at Security Essen, Germany, 25th – 28th September

We are getting prepared for a busy Security Essen show again this year where we will demonstrate how the different detection technologies we offer can improve security systems.

We look forward to showcasing our new firmware for our 2D Lidar scanners, with models now ranging from less than 20m to a 100m pre-warning zone, along with a new PIR to add to our outdoor intrusion range. (Find out more).

For residential applications we will be exhibiting our newly launched Shield PIR series that feature a volumetric 12m 90-degree model and a 12 side curtain PIR series, both with a versatile design with multiple housing options. We will also be previewing our new 180-degree outdoor PIRs, the WXI series, which will be launched in Europe soon.

Also on our stand will be multi-layered intrusion detection capabilities for commercial premises and critical infrastructure sites. It will demonstrate, for example, how a fenced perimeter can be protected using fibre optic sensors from our sister company, FiberSensys. Alternatively, ‘virtual’ perimeter walls can be generated by using OPTEX’s REDSCAN laser-scan detectors; the newly launched RLS-3060SH version 8 enables detection up to 100m in vertical mode.

This extended range of 2D LiDAR sensors, which can create a virtual wall or plane, now features the new software and firmware version 8, with the RLS-3060SH model now featuring a pre-warning zone that can detect 50m in horizontal mode and 100m (50m each side) in vertical mode.

Our team will also be on hand to demonstrate the compact version of the 2D LiDAR scanner suitable for indoor and outdoor applications to protect assets and premises, our pre-built towers and long range PoE/IP sensors that are integrated with VMS and PSIM platforms including ela-soft.

For long range applications, our motion sensors, the SIP series, are capable of detecting objects in an area of 100x4m or 50x30m, and provide three independent zones that can drive camera positions.

Visitors to Security Essen can meet OPTEX EMEA management, sales, technical and marketing teams at Booth 5B48 in Hall 5, as well as on the stand of our integrated VMS partner, Genetec at Hall 5, stand 5G30. We will be there to answer any questions you may have about our products or potential projects . Find out more about the show here and how to register.

Meet the new UK sales team at our Open day, 20th September

We would like to invite you to our Open day at the Optex EMEA headquarters with a chance to meet the new UK sales team which has been extended to meet increasing demand. Benjamin Linklater our Sales Director, who has over 15 years’ experience in the security industry, will now be leading a sales team that has been restructured and increased in size, where roles have been planned to provide customers with the best service possible.

Our Area Sales Managers will continue to be split geographically: Neil Foster will look after the North of the UK and Ireland; Dale Jones will focus on the Midlands; and Mathew Oakley is new to the team and will look after London and the South East. Mathew has worked in the installation industry and we look forward to welcoming his fresh perspective to the team.

Sarah Black, UK Sales Channel Manager, oversees providing support to our distribution partners both at a branch and Head Office level. Supporting Sarah, we now have a dedicated Internal Sales Executive, Connor Banfield, who is on hand to point you in the right direction and answer any queries.

Sandrine Cocks, who previously looked after New Business Product Development, will now provide unique, value adding solutions to the key accounts to help identify and deliver each stakeholders goal. Yoshinori Ashikaga, IoS & New Product Development Senior Manager and Product Manager will now support the team and take over new business enquiries.

Our Open day, held at our EMEA Headquarters, Maidenhead, UK, will feature an introduction from Managing Director, Masaya Kida, and the opportunity to meet the UK sales team. OPTEX Technical Product Manager, Richard Hobson, will discuss planning for the security of our building, and our partners will host presentations about various security solutions. If you would like to attend this free event which includes a complimentary buffet, please RSVP.

Best practice to enable special detection areas on the VXI

This month’s Optex tech tip features the VXI. It is important to ensure a sensor is installed effectively, whether that’s ensuring the alignment accurate, or it is mounted at the recommended height. Both of these criteria help to maximise detection performance.

It is important to make sure the VXI is mounted correctly between 0.8 and 1.2 metres because if it is mounted lower or higher than this, it will not detect reliably or accurately. When the mounting process is complete, the lower pyro can then be adjusted between settings 1 to 5 in order to match the required detection area. The sensor range can be adjusted between 2.5 and 12 metres.

It is important to note that each installation is unique, so when you install a detector you need to walk test it to confirm it is detecting where it is supposed to be. Remember to replace the lens before walk testing or you will not achieve the full range.

The maximum detection area of the VXI is a 90 degree detection angle covering 12 metres. The VXI detector comes complete with a set of masking seals, each of which have pre-configured templates. The masking seals work well in tight environments where the standard detection area is too large. By selecting and fixing the correct seal for the environment, the VXI will no longer alarm on areas which could cause nuisance alarms such as public walkways.
