OPTEX’s OVS technology has been developed not to trigger when humans move into the line of sight. The vehicle sensor combines ultrasonic and microwave technology that complement each other to ensure stable and successful vehicle detection.

What if you do detect human presence?

Like with any solution there is always the ‘what if’ scenario. If the installed OVS is detecting humans, then there are installation factors we need to look at. Usually the problem lies with the mounting height the sensor has been installed at. The OVS sensor should be mounted at 0.5m (20inches) from the base of the sensor to the ground.

Being at this height, if a human should walk in front of the sensor, it is at leg height and the legs are not a solid mass and too small to be detected, rather than the torso which is a larger mass.

What if the mounting height is correct?

There are five sensitivity settings called ‘Trigger Sensitivity’ that can be adjusted (one being high sensitivity to detect vehicle and people, five being low sensitivity to detect only vehicles). Please ensure that factory default settings are set.

If human presence is still detected these settings can be fine-tuned until human presence is no longer a factor.

Once the correct installation height is confirmed and factory settings ensured you should complete the calibration by doing an area check. It is critical that each time a parameter has been changed, the area check should be refreshed (it is important that no one is in front of the sensor while performing the area check).
