Estimates suggest one burglary is committed every 1.5 minutes in the EU. It is a growing concern for homeowners, particularly those located in rural areas, and country houses, whose remote location can make them feel more vulnerable. This was the case for a large residential property where the owners needed an outdoor security solution to protect the access to their house as well as the outbuildings, and ultimately give them peace of mind at night and when they were away.

The detached property located in a quiet village in the countryside, has an open driveway leading onto a main road and a large back garden which is open to the nearby fields and not fenced on all sides, making it vulnerable to potential intruders. A garden workshop, detached from the house and storing valuable equipment also needed protection.

The customer’s previous security system was limited to PIR-activated floodlights, cameras and a video doorbell to check who was at the front door. The floodlights and cameras kept triggering due to small animals, shadows and even weather changes, disturbing animals in the nearby properties and becoming a nuisance for the neighbours. Concerned that the constant light and noise nuisances were affecting relationships with their neighbours, the owners considered switching the system off.

Following a consultation with the homeowner, and a review of the property, our VXI sensor/CMOD kit solution was recommended and installed to provide highly accurate detection and high-quality video verification so that the homeowners can safely verify the alarms themselves from their smartphones, wherever they are.

At the heart of the solution is the highly-reliable detection capabilities of our best-selling VXI sensor, which provides a range of up to 12m and a 90° field of view, with one unit installed to protect the driveway and a second unit in the back garden, detecting anyone that is approaching the house or outbuildings. Crucially, the VXI sensor is tolerant of small animals and will not trigger if cats, badgers, foxes or smaller dogs are in the detection area. Its detection capacity is also not affected by variable light, vegetation sway and changes in the weather making it ideal for the rural setting.

Fitting snugly on top of the sensor is the CMOD camera module which is activated when the sensor is triggered, sending an immediate notification to the owner’s paired mobile phones via the OPTEX Vision app. By opening the app, the owners can access the VXI-CMOD’s live view and audio* and the stored recording (two-second pre-alarm and 28-second post-alarm) of the event for verification.

The CMOD features a 180° panoramic view at 1080P HD giving a full view of the area at the front and back of the house. With built-in infrared LEDs for enhanced vision at night and also equipped with a microphone for optional audio, it allows the owners to get a better understanding of the situation.
