Across the EMEA region there are a number of different regulations for allowed microwave frequencies. To provide compliance with most frequencies, OPTEX offers its indoor and outdoor dual-technology sensors in two or three different versions.

OPTEX offers a range of combined PIR/Microwave indoor and outdoor sensors, also known as ‘dual-technology’ sensors. The versions are differentiated with an ‘X’ suffix at the end of the product code, such as QXI-DAM-X5, QXI-DAM-X8 and QXI-DAM-X9. It has nothing to do with a mutant gene, it is just a way to associate an X model to a specific microwave frequency.

  • X5 is compliant with the 10.525GHz frequency and 12.51 mW e.i.r.p Power
  • X8 is compliant with the 10.587 GHz frequency and 12 mW e.i.r.p Power
  • X9 is compliant with 9.425 GHz frequency and 18.16 mW e.i.r.p Power.

Some countries accept more than one frequency. For other countries, the compliance has to be validated by the local regulator.

Which frequency for which countries?

X5 (10.525 GHz)

Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland

X8 (10.587 GHz)

Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, United Kingdom

X9 (9.425 GHz)

Austria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Slovakia, Turkey, Russia

Why does it matter?

If an installer is implementing sensors using unregulated frequencies, the devices could interfere with other government regulated frequencies which may lead to the system not working properly and to the risk of being fined by the regulator.

What happens for the countries not listed above?

For countries not listed above, our sensors would need to pass the local regulation test to be certified as compliant. This is the case, for instance, in South Africa with the ICASA regulation and we have a number of PIR/MW sensors compliant with ICASA such as VXI-DAM and VXI-DRAM, QXI-DT and RDT, WXS-DAM and WXS-RDAM etc.
