Part of the Shield series, both the BXS and WXS sensors feature independent left and right detection settings. The detection range can be adjusted ad certain areas can be masked to adapt to the site’s layout. To validate the set detection areas, it is important to perform a walk test.

WX Series

The WXS provide a 12 metre, 180-degree detection area and first you should begin walking around in the detection area (default settings), noting that the sensor is triggering.

When you are happy that the sensor is triggering and getting the correct detection, you can then adjust the sensor’s settings to customise the detection area, left and right.

Begin by removing the cover of the sensor, and you can easily remove the sensor from its back box.

You are then presented with a number of customisable features.

With the WXS wide angle sensor, you can choose at which height to mount the sensor, either low at 0.8-1.2 metres or high mount at 2 metres. When mounted at 2m, the detection range is fixed at 9m and the length can’t be adjusted. The customisation and walk test procedure described below is relevant for the low mount setting.

The WXS has individual left and right detection, which can be adjusted individually. You can adjust the detection range from 2.5m, 3.5m, 6.0m, 8.5m or 12m, you can do this on each side and they do not need to be the same each side, you could have 8.5m left and 3.5m of the right, this allows you to provide a very unique customised detection.

You can, if needed, choose to turn off one side completely using the DIP switches at the top of the sensor. DIP switch 9 will turn off the left detection area and DIP switch 10, the right one.

When you have customised the detection range, close the cover of the sensor to start the automatic walk test mode, which will give you up to three minutes to walk the detection area again. The sensor’s LED will blink when you are detected and stop blinking if you aren’t, allowing you to validate the customised detection area.

The BXS series

The BXS is an outdoor curtain detector providing up to 12m detection range on the left and on the right. In a similar way to the WXS, you can create a customised detection area based on your requirements. The BXS sensor when new and out of the box will be pre-set to its fullest detection: 12m each side.

Once mounted, you can begin to walk test this, testing both left and right detection works. If you do not require the full 12m of detection on one side or the other, you can reduce the detection range.

First remove the cover from the sensor and remove the sensor from the back box.

You will be presented with two range adjustments for the left and right detection areas. You can independently adjust the left and right side to 2.5m, 3.5m, 6.0m, 8.5m or 12m in length by moving the adjusters up and down.

In some cases you may not need a left or right detection. If so, you can choose to turn off that detection area by using the DIP switches. To turn off the left side DIP switch 4 should be off, to turn off the right side, DIP switch 5 should be set to the off switch.

Once you have set your BXS sensor to the desired specifications, close the cover to automatically start the walk test mode. You should walk down the left side of the detector and right side of the detector, the red LED blinking on the left or right lens will indicate that you are being detected. If the LED stays off you are not detected. You can add accuracy by measuring out your range, so if you have set detection to 6m, you should not trigger any alarms beyond that point.

If you are not entirely satisfied by the detection settings you can repeat the process described above.
