Pre-built beam towers for ease and speed during the installation process.

Active infrared beams remain a very efficient and cost-effective technology to protect perimeters. Creating point-to-point detection can act as a substitute to a perimeter wall or fence or act as an additional layer of security.

IR beams featuring selected channel frequency can be stacked in towers and allow for a variety of configurations to detect either people or vehicles. The process of stacking the beams in towers, ordering and fixing the various mounting components and beams is not straightforward and can be a lengthy process. To make the installation easier and quicker for the installers, we have decided to offer a range of pre-assembled two or three meter towers. Each of them will by default include the tower itself, the mounting elements, brackets, a tamper switch and heater – in addition to the active beams ordered that will be fitted inside (priced separately). Additional components can also be ordered and pre-assembled such as the power supply, anti-climb top tamper and fan.

By default, the Active Beam series for the pre-assembled towers is the SL-QDP-BT series, including our stackable, dual-modulation Quad Beam range featuring 60m, 100 or 200m wired models.

Double sided freestanding TWD-RR series:

  • TWD202RR: 2m freestanding tower featuring one SL-QDP-BT infrared beam on each side
  • TWD204RR: 2m freestanding tower featuring two SL-QDP-BT infrared beams on each side
  • TWD306 RR: 3m freestanding tower featuring three SL-QDP-BT infrared beams on each side

Single sided freestanding STW-RR series:

  • STW201RR: 2m freestanding tower with one SL-QDP-BT beam
  • STW202RR: 2m freestanding tower with two SL-QDP-BT beams
  • STW303RR: 3m freestanding tower with three SL-QDP-BT beams

Wall-mounted STWM-RR series:

  • STWM201RR: 2m wall-mounted tower with one SL-QDP-BT beam
  • STWM202RR: 2m freestanding tower with two SL-QDP-BT beams
  • STWM303RR: 3m freestanding tower with three SL-QDP-BT beams

Detecting people jumping over turnstiles using laser technology

Turnstiles are a good way to manage the access into global or corporate offices as they allow employees and visitors to swipe their access control card to get in, in a fast-flowing manner. However, it is possible to jump over them.

The REDSCAN laser scanner can detect unauthorised access by creating a vertical (virtual wall) detection area on the turnstile lane. If a person is detected in the lane and the card is swiped no alarm is triggered, but if no card is swiped then an alarm is triggered. When integrated with a Video Management System, a pre-set camera can be triggered to send the video of the unauthorised person to the security staff.

After a successful deployment at one of their customers’ sites, leading door and turnstile manufacturer Boon Edam is displaying the integration of the REDSCAN RLS-2020, and their turnstile in their New York showroom.

Tailgating is a real threat to companies – the cost is too high to measure

The survey by Boon Edam came to the following conclusions:

  • The majority of respondents believe security breaches from tailgating have remained constant/are on the rise.
  • 85 % of respondents admitted they did not track tailgating incidents.
  • Over 70% of respondents believe they are currently vulnerable to a security breach from tailgating.
  • More than 50% of those surveyed believe the cost of a breach caused by tailgating would be from $150,000 to too costly to measure

The key risks of tailgating are:

  • Loss of proprietary hardware
  • Property loss
  • Intellectual property loss
  • Risk to personal safety
  • Risk of inaccurate headcount

For high-security buildings, using interlocks to only allow one authorised person into a building at a time, our time of flight Accurance 3D tailgating detection system acts as a tailgating prevention solution. The Accurance 3D sensor and control box can be easily connected via relay output to existing access control systems and will add an extra layer of security. Once the authorised person has swiped his/her card and has entered the interlock, the Accurance 3D system will map the scene in 3D to confirm that only one person is in the area. If there is more than one person or any suspicious shapes present, access will be denied and the second door will remain closed.

During the Access Control Innovation hour at IFSEC 2017, many major access control system manufacturers recognised that tailgating is an issue that is increasing and needs tackling. You can find more information here or contact us.
