App based visual verification that doesn’t cry wolf

Showcased at IFSEC International between 18th and 20th June, OPTEX’s new Wi-Fi 180° camera module VXI-CMOD fits very neatly on top of a wired VXI sensor, to create a very reliable App-based visual verification solution. The camera module is available in Italy and just been released in the UK.

The VX Infinity, OPTEX’s bestselling outdoor intrusion detection sensor has a 90° field of detection and reach up to 12m. The VX Series is the ideal solution to protect driveways, terraces and balconies. Providing one of the most reliable detection rates, including a double layered detection area, it will only trigger when both layers are activated, eliminating the detection of small animals.

The VXI sensor is equipped with enhanced signal recognition logic called SMDA. This SMDA logic reduces false alarms caused by environmental changes and vegetation sway. With the addition of the VXI-CMOD camera module, the home or business owner can now visually verify the activation of the sensor using the OPTEX Vision App. As the solution is led by the sensor, there is only a notification when the alarm is genuine meaning a person or vehicle has been detected.

When the sensor detects an intruder, the integrated camera module is activated: it records the event and sends a notification to the owners’ paired mobile phone(s) (iOS or Android). The notification is made through an App called ‘OPTEX Vision’ and can be received by multiple users simultaneously. By opening the App, recipients can access the VXI-CMOD’s live view* and the stored recording (two-second pre-alarm and 28-second post-alarm) of the event for verification. The camera module features an 180° panoramic view at 1080P HD, with built-in infrared LEDs for enhanced vision at night, and a microphone.

The outdoor sensor and the WiFi camera can be added to an existing alarm panel or be installed as a separate outdoor intrusion detection solution giving home or business owners security surveillance that they can access any time they choose.

The OPTEX Vision App can manage multiple devices, so all VXI-CMOD installed on one site can be seen from one dashboard.

Recorded footage is stored on the device on an SD card that can be accessed via the App and also downloaded onto the smart device.

Above ground vehicle detection for minimum disruption

Vehicle gate automation relies primarily on ground loop or induction loop detection which has been a proven technology for decades. There are some instances where the installation of in-ground vehicle devices is challenging or not possible or even not allowed: such as where the road surface is damaged or unsealed, paved with cobblestones, or above drains or pipes.

The installation of a ground device itself can be very disruptive: while the road surface is being dug, the traffic on that section of the road has to be stopped. This can prevent a business operating as normal such as access to parking entrances etc. For all those scenarios, OPTEX has introduced a vehicle sensor to the market – the ViiK-OVS-GT.

The ViiK OVS-01GT model combines Microwave (FMCW) with Ultrasonic technology to sense both a vehicle’s movement and presence. The OVS-01GT detects the presence of small or large stationary or moving vehicles within 5.5 meters while ignoring human traffic. It is easy to install; unlike ground loops, no civil works are required as the device is mounted at c500mm from the ground. The OVS-01GT connects to an automatic gate, barrier or industrial door operator, and includes menu programming, five sensitivity settings and five human cancelling selections, all with one-button calibration. It suits simple gate activation applications as well as being part of state-of-the-art parking systems. Our network of distributors is growing for the ViiK OVS GT, so please contact us if you have any questions.

Certification training for the Redscan series

Our REDSCAN RLS-2020 and RLS-3060 are very reliable and customisable sensors that require training to be installed correctly, as with all higher security equipment.

The training consists of two key elements. The first part focuses on understanding the laser sensor itself: how does time of flight technology work; how to assess the degree of reflectivity of the objects; what are the different mounting options; and the configuration and the key features of the products.

The second part looks at the Configuration Software; The Redscan Manager is an essential software tool to configure all our LiDARs. This includes: setting up the detection areas; the selection of appropriate detection modes such as indoor/outdoor/horizontal/vertical/thrown objects/wall climb detection/extended range. In addition to this, the target size, speed or distance can be tailored for various applications and the type of event triggered.

The Product Certification training for the RLS-3060 series and for the RLS-2020 series can be completed online and free of charge. The online training can be taken in your own time and in several sessions to fit your diary. Upon completion of the training, a certificate will be issued.

As the training is by invitation only, please either contact your OPTEX account Manager to receive an invitation, or contact our training team at certifications@optex-europe.com

As an alternative to the online training, we also offer face-to-face training sessions which are provided either directly by the OPTEX technical team or by certified partners. Please contact us if you wish to take part.
