Aligning precision with the REDSCAN Pro Series

28 November 2024

In this latest tech tip, Arjan Nieuwlaat from our technical team introduces one of the innovative features of the REDSCAN Pro Series that supports, accurate detection area alignment. Proper alignment of the detection area is crucial to ensure the REDSCAN Pro Series operates at accuracy. Misalignment can lead to missed detections or false alarms, compromising the system's effectiveness in safeguarding entry points or open spaces.

The video showcases how the built-in camera in the REDSCAN Pro Series simplifies the setup process, helping to visually align the laser with the desired detection zone. A superimposed red horizontal line provides a clear visualisation of the scanning area, making it clear when adjustments are required.

Fine-tuning the detection area with the REDSCAN Pro Series is a straightforward process. In our tech video, Arjan demonstrates how the feature works. The system's display highlights a grey detection zone, representing the area scanned by the device. When an object is detected, it will display as a blue marker. When the individual raises a hand within the detection area, the laser detects and marks additional objects on the screen, demonstrating the camera's crucial role in enhancing the system's accuracy.

Whether protecting entry points or open spaces, this improved alignment process ensures optimal performance.

IMPORTANT INFO: In order to achieve a perfect alignment, the laser area checker (LAC-1) is also required to physically confirm the location of the detection.

Important information

In order to achieve a perfect alignment, the laser area checker (LAC-1) is also required to physically confirm the location of the detection.

Step-by-Step Guide: Setting Up and Aligning Your REDSCAN using the built-in camera (Vertical and horizontal detection area)

  1. Install the REDSCAN: Begin by securely mounting the device in its designated location.
  2. Establish a connection:
    1. Connect the REDSCAN to your laptop PC via a LAN cable or create a wireless access point that has a wired connection to the laser and then use a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet to configure the REDSCAN remotely.
    2. Ensure both the REDSCAN and your device are on the same network for proper communication.
  3. Access the camera view:
    1. Input the REDSCAN’s IP address into an Internet browser on your laptop or mobile device.
    2. The live camera view of the product will be displayed on your device.
  4. Physical angle adjustment: Vertical and horizontal detection area
    1. Unlock the Tilt-lock screw slightly to allow movement. Be cautious not to over-rotate as the screw can come off.
    2. Adjust the laser line on the camera image so it aligns with the target area. You can tilt between +5 to -95 degrees.
  5. Roll Adjustment:
    1. Unlock the Roll-lock screw slightly to allow adjustment. Again, avoid over-rotating.
    2. Roll the REDSCAN within +5 to -5 degrees so that you re-align the laser where you need the detection to take place, as reference you can use a target object or person placing it in the centre of the camera view.
    3. The red line displayed represents the infrared laser’s light axis, ensuring accurate targeting.
  6. Secure the Setup:
    1. Once alignment is finalized, tighten both screws to firmly secure the unit in place.
    2. Ensure all connections are stable and the REDSCAN is properly aligned with the detection zone.
