How to correctly install our BXS curtain detectors

21 January 2025

Installing the OPTEX BXS curtain detector to ensure proper functionality and optimal security coverage involves following a few steps. Here’s our guide for getting it right.

  • DIP Switch 3 - Single zone or two independent zones setting
  • Use dipswitch 3 to unify the left and right side into a single zone or operate as two separate zone.
  • OFF – single zone
  • ON – two independent zones
  • DIP Switch 4 and 5 – Turn on Extreme High Detection mode.
  • As passive infrared detection relies on the difference of temperature between the moving object and the ambient temperature, in hot countries it’s important that the small difference is also detected. For these locations, the sensitivity can be set to extremely high, maximizing the detection performance to avoid missed alarms.

Test the Tamper Function:

  • Verify that the tamper switch triggers an alert when the cover is removed.

Install the Cover:

  • Reattach the detector cover securely.
  • Walk through the detection area to ensure the detector is triggering appropriately. When the front cover is closed the BXS automatically goes to walk test for three minutes. During this time the LED will come on for two seconds when an object is detected. The LED will blink for five seconds at the end of the automatic walk test and the detector goes to normal operation mode.
  • Make adjustments to the detection angle or sensitivity if necessary.

Final Check:

  • Confirm that all connections are secure and that the detector is communicating correctly with the alarm system.
