Smart connectivity has changed the way users manage their security. Today, thanks to innovation in sensor and panel manufacturers it is possible to create reliable and versatile wireless security systems where the user can remotely adapt the system to changing environment and situations.

What is bi-directional communication?

As implied by the name, bi-directional communication means the information flows two ways. The sensor communicates events to the alarm panel and also receives the information from the alarm panel allowing the user to remotely modify the device parameters, for instance from a smartphone or voice automation devices.

Depending on the situation and environment, the following settings can be adjusted remotely in OPTEX bi-directional sensors:

  • LED on/off
  • Battery saving timer
  • Day/night settings
  • Enable PIR sensitivity
  • Adjust PIR pulse control
  • Auto environmental adjustment
  • Anti-masking setting

Which OPTEX sensors support bi-directional communication?

A wide range of our external battery-operated sensors support a bi-directional communication protocol that can be integrated by wireless alarm panel manufacturers, to create a wireless multi-layered security system with all the benefits of reliability and accuracy of OPTEX technology.

BX Shield Curtain detectors provide two independent left-right narrow beam detection areas up to 12m each, perfect to protect windows, doors and the immediate boundary of houses, offices or garages.

VX Shield Short-range outdoor detectors provide 90-degree 12m detection coverage to alert of intruders approaching the premises, perfect for driveways and corner spaces around the building.

QX Infinity wide-angle high-mount detectors provide 120-degree wide and 12m detection area, ideal for protecting wide spaces surrounding the house or commercial premises.

WX Infinity Outdoor panoramic detectors with a comprehensive 180-degree field of detection, ideal for detecting anyone approaching the premises or flat roof protection for residential and commercial properties.

WX Shield Flexible panoramic detectors provide 180-degree panoramic detection as well as a selectable low (0.8 - 1.2m) or high-mount (2m) option.

OPTEX sensors provide a range of settings that can be accessed via the two-way communication. Wireless alarm panel manufacturers can decide which of our products and parameters can be embedded in their protocol in order to create more agile wireless intrusion systems.
