The REDSCAN Mini sensors' LiDAR technology determines the distance, size and travel speed of an object by emitting a pulsed laser beam. 

The REDSCAN Mini or RLS-2020 sensors offer a fully customisable 20 x 20 m detection area with up to 4 independently configurable zones and can be seamlessly integrated with installed security systems, including VMS or PSIM, or directly with PTZ cameras. The RLS-2020 series is grade 3 compliant.

RLS-2020I

The RLS-2020I is a compact, Grade 3 compliant indoor laser sensor designed for professional security applications.

It creates a customisable virtual wall or plane with a detection area up to 20m x 20m, helping to identify the presence of people or objects within defined areas.

The REDSCAN series uses LiDAR technology to protect sites from security breaches such as intrusion, theft and unauthorised access. It also helps improve the reliability of video-based motion detection and surveillance by providing accurate detection triggers for CCTV and VMS systems.

RLS-2020S

The RLS-2020S is a compact REDSCAN Mini LiDAR sensor for indoor Grade 3 applications and outdoor intrusion detection.

It creates a customisable virtual wall or plane to detect people or objects entering defined areas. Standard coverage reaches up to 20 x 20m, with extended range mode providing up to a 30m radius at a 95° detection angle from version 3.0 onwards.

Built for professional security environments, the RLS-2020S gives installers flexible zone control across corridors, façades, rooftops, perimeters, skylights, restricted areas and high-risk indoor spaces.

High Resolution mode adds extra precision for smaller object detection, including throw-in detection.

Choose the RLS-2020S when the site needs indoor Grade 3 detection, outdoor detection, extended range coverage, or specialist high-resolution detection.

Choose REDSCAN mini for accurate short-range LiDAR detection across defined areas up to 20 x 20m.

The series creates virtual detection walls or planes, giving security teams a precise way to protect restricted areas, openings, valuable assets, façades, rooftops, walls, skylights and internal zones.

RLS-2020S

The RLS-2020S is the right choice when the detection area sits outdoors, or when the site needs flexible short-range LiDAR protection across changing indoor and outdoor conditions.

RLS-2020I

Choose the RLS-2020I for indoor areas needing precise Grade 3 LiDAR detection.

This model suits museums, galleries, vaults, server rooms, storage areas, corridors, restricted rooms and high-value indoor assets.

The RLS-2020I is the right choice when the detection area is inside the building and the installer needs accurate virtual walls or planes with flexible angle adjustment.

REDSCAN mini and REDSCAN mini-Pro suit many of the same short-range LiDAR detection applications.

Both ranges help protect rooftops, skylights, façades, restricted areas, corridors, high-value assets, server rooms, museums, galleries, warehouses, commercial buildings and critical sites.

The main difference is specification, integration, zoning and network security.

REDSCAN mini is a strong choice for short-range LiDAR detection across defined areas. The RLS-2020S supports indoor Grade 3 applications, outdoor detection, extended range mode, indoor high-resolution mode and indoor throw-in mode. The RLS-2020I supports indoor Grade 3 applications with flexible angle adjustment and area setting.

REDSCAN mini-Pro is designed for sites needing stronger IP integration, greater zoning flexibility and higher network security requirements. It supports ONVIF Profile S, PoE or PoE+, HTTPS, SNMPv3 and IEEE802.1X, making it well suited to network-led sites such as datacentres, airports, transport hubs, commercial buildings and critical infrastructure.

The RLS-2020A is best where accurate LiDAR detection, network integration and event review are required, with visual coverage handled by existing CCTV or VMS systems.

The RLS-2020V is best where the site also needs built-in visual verification from the sensor itself, using the integrated FHD camera with IR LED.

The Redscan RLS-2020I and RLS-2020S both require PoE, but will work with PoE+.


The Redscan series generate a Redwall Event Code. This is a simple ASCII character code which can be sent via TCP/IP (for example to a VMS). The Redscan Event Code communication can be set as follows:

  • UDP Broadcast
  • UDP Unicast
  • UDP Broadcast & TCP
  • UDP Unicast & TCP

In addition to the above, with the RLS-2020 there is also an HTTPS integration.

A large selection of our intrusion detection sensors can be custom painted, including our LiDAR range, our short range outdoor PIRs and dual tech sensors such as the BX, VX and WX series. Some of our sensors though, like our IR beams and beam towers cannot be customised as the housing has been treated with special UV resistant material and the properties of the material would be affected by any coating. It is recommended that you check with your distributor or directly with OPTEX whether your sensor is suitable for customised painting.

What do we mean by customised painting ?

Customising the sensor means the body of the detector will be coated with either a single colour or with a pattern simulating the background surface where the sensor will be installed. Any colour variation and many design options can be achieved: the coating can replicate a wood texture, foliage, marble or natural stone, metal, carbon fibre and many more.

Can all the parts of the sensors be coated?

The plastic housing can, but some parts might not be suitable for custom paint, usually the parts next to the lens which are made of a different material

When can a customisation be done?

The customisation is only available to newly purchased sensors and requires on average 10 working days. Once you have selected the right sensors suitable for your protection needs you should analyse the precise locations where they will be installed in order to establish what will be the background like. At this stage share with our team the RAL code for the colour or a high res image of the background where the sensor will be installed. The process of customisation is arranged by OPTEX.

Don’ts

We strongly recommend that you don’t try customising the sensors yourself; applying spray paint will not work, it will damage the sensor and it will invalidate the warranty. The cost for the customisation of the sensor varies based on order and type of sensor. Contact our sales team to find out more and discuss your needs.
