ONVIF integration with OPTEX REDSCAN and Milestone XProtect VMS

At OPTEX we have an increasing number of devices that conform to ONVIF Profile-S. This standard communication protocol enables our IP sensors to integrate with other devices in the security network with more flexibility and ease of implementation.

OPTEX devices with built-in camera can communicate directly with recorders and Video Management System (VMS) platforms, allowing our customers to harness the power of the complementary technologies offered by our integration partners to achieve the most effective security system.

In this tech tip, our team take you through the step-by-step process of adding the REDSCAN Pro to the Milestone VMS with an ONVIF profile.

• To add the REDSCAN to Milestone, an ONVIF profile needs to be created. The ONVIF menu is not visible under simple menu structure, and so the advanced menu needs to be enabled. This can be done by going to settings > view >menu and clicking to enable the ‘always show advanced settings’ option.
• Double click ok on the confirm dialogue box then click on save, and the detector will restart. Go to the settings menu, select security and then ONVIF user management. Select add then create a user.

• As you can see in the video, we have created a user with the username milestone and given then operator privileges. Go the ONVIF media profile, under the H.264 encoding ensure that the resolution is 720p (HD), the JPEG encoding is 720p (HD) and the image quality is set to normal.

• The ONVIF has six digital inputs. The REDSCAN also has six relay outputs. We recommend setting the alarm outputs on the relay outputs and interlocking them with the ONVIF digital inputs. When you are finished confirming the settings and save.

• On the Milestone Xprotect client, select your recording server and add hardware, select address range scanning then select next. The username for the REDSCAN will appear in the add hardware dialogue box, select it then press next on the next menu select the + sign by ONVIF and ensure that both options are selected.
• Next select the IP range which the installed REDSCAN is on, then hit next. Milestone will scan for the hardware and when the REDSCAN is found, press stop. Ensure that the unit is selected and then press next.

• Wait until Milestone adds the device. When the device is added, the status will change from running to success with a green check mark. Select next.

• On the next menu ensure that all of the tick boxes are selected, press next and then press finished. The unit will then be added to the recording server.

• From here you can rename the unit from the default name to whatever is suitable for your application. You can also rename the camera, metadata and each of the ONVIF digital inputs.

• You can select a digital input and assign one or more events to it such as Zone alarms (A1, B2), Tamper (TA), soiling (SO),Device Trouble (TR) Anti-rotate (AR) Anti-mask (AM) Environmental Disqualification(DQ)
