Tech tip: Caution regarding REDSCAN firmware upgrade

If the REDSCAN devices, either from the RLS-3060 or RLS-2020 series, are functioning correctly installing newer firmware is not recommended. In the event that new features are requested by customers, please get in contact with your local OPTEX Support Team who will advise whether a firmware upgrade is required to enable the additional features.

Due to the inherent risks of updating the firmware of any technology, it is always best to seek assistance from OPTEX prior to installing any upgrades.

Here are some key facts that you should know regarding REDSCAN firmware upgrade:

    • The firmware installation tools required differ between RLS-2020 and RLS-3060 series
    • Firmware upgrades will reset the units to factory settings
    • Following the upgrade the detection area will also need to be reset
    • Any power failure or interruption of the upgrade process could result in the unit having to be returned to our offices for repair
    • Failure of units caused by failed firmware upgrades are NOT covered by the warranty

Before attempting any upgrade, installers must contact their local OPTEX technical team so our experts can determine:

    • Whether a firmware upgrade is required
    • How to deploy the tools correctly
    • How to back-up/restore REDSCAN settings to minimise the time to get the device back online
