A burglary occurs every 1.5 minutes in Europe so it is crucial for businesses with valuable assets or machinery to detect an intrusion quickly and prevent theft or damage to goods.

At OPTEX we understand how detrimental and expensive break-ins can be and so we have developed highly effective multi-layered security systems that are used by thousands of facilities worldwide, including government, military, transportation, utilities, and many commercial areas.

Why multi-layered protection?

An effective security system combines different sensing technologies to achieve the best possible results and provide layers of detection against intruders. Our multi-layered solutions provide three lines of defence by detecting intrusions in the perimeter, approach zone and building boundary. Intruders can often come in groups and target different areas of a site, making it essential that the security system is capable of detecting and tracking multiple intruders, guiding cameras and alerting staff to assess the situation.

1. Perimeter

Detection in the perimeter helps spot any suspicious activity or loitering in the outermost zones and provides an early warning of potential threats. OPTEX has a wide portfolio of perimeter solutions to accurately detect the location of intruders and alert CCTV system and offsite security management before they have had a chance to get enter the site.

Long-range LiDAR Detection

LiDAR technology creates high resolution virtual laser walls and planes to protect perimeters, buildings, roofs, and assets. Using onboard sensing analytics, REDSCAN Pro LiDARs can detect and recognise a moving object’s size, speed and distance and pinpoint the exact location of an intruder or intruders and enable a fast security response.

The REDSCAN Pro series are ONVIF compliant and provide high-security protection over large areas up to 100m. The REDSCAN Pro also has a built-in camera to assist with configuration and post-event analysis, delivering the ultimate solution and accuracy when it comes to intruder detection by recording the exact events as they happen. It offers up to 8 independent zones which can be individually adjusted to detect different object sizes, for example one zone can be set to detect just vehicles while another can detect people.

Fibre Optic

Fibre optic technology installed on the fence will detect if someone is climbing over, crawling under, or cutting through.

OPTEX Fiber SenSys can be used for fenced perimeters ranging from 50 meters to over 100 kilometres. It is also designed to last in harsh and hazardous environments and can be remotely deployed with no power or communications required in the field.

What really makes our Fiber optic sensors an integral part of any multi-layered security system, is their ability to detect the location of an intruder in even the largest of perimeters and give a better chance to stop them before they have even had a chance to enter the site.

Active Infrared Beams

Active Infrared beams (AIR) provide a detection line that can be used as a virtual wall or placed on top of existing walls or fences.

The Smart Line Series include quad beams that ignore activations by wildlife or falling leaves for even higher accuracy and reliability. They are weather resistant and their detection performance is not affected by strong sunlight or high temperatures. In order to create a virtual perimeter, they can be easily stacked into towers.

Wireless models are available and are perfect for remote locations or temporary installations, where wiring is difficult or a more cost-effective option due to easier installation.

2. Approach

Detection in the Approach zone is essential to track an intruder’s whereabouts if they have made it past the perimeter and to anticipate their next move. Our long-range volumetric detectors are designed to track an intruder and trigger CCTV systems in the direction of the area of intrusion, and can cover wide open areas or narrow but long alleyways.

Volumetric PIR Detectors

The REDWALL Series work in combination with CCTV systems providing reliable and accurate detection with independent detection zones to locate and track one or several intruders. Part of the wider security system, REDWALL SIP sensors can activate security lighting, voice warnings and cameras to deter intruders from going any further.

Models include wired and wireless detectors and feature two independent detection zones covering near and far areas. Some models feature a third detection area called the creep zone, which covers the zone directly under the sensor. They also come with anti-vandalism and anti-masking features for enhanced security.

3. Roof and building

The third layer of an effective security system would detect and track intruders' movements close to any buildings and protect entry points. We provide advanced protection for all possible entry points including the roof, skylights, windows, walls, and doors with our customizable detection areas, ensuring that the exterior of the building is secure and that an intruder can be easily tracked if they do break in.

LiDAR Detection

The REDSCAN Pro series offers high precision security for façade and roof protection as well as narrow corridors next to buildings. 2D LiDAR technology allows to define precisely the detection and exclusion zones and offers high detection resolution not affected by weather or lighting, covering an area of up to 100metres.

The REDSCAN Mini RLS-2020 is suitable for medium sized areas up to 20metres or a 95degrees across a 30metre radius. REDSCAN sensors can be used indoors and outdoors to either detect movement on the roof or placed on the inside to detect any access through the ceiling.

AIR Laser Beams

Another solution is to use the SL infrared beams to create a virtual barrier or wall around the roof should anyone attempt to climb onto it and enter through a window or fire door.

Fibre optics

OPTEX Fiber Sensys can be embedded on walls and ceilings to detect any drilling holes to gain access inside buildings, for instance to access goods in a warehouse or trying to pull out cash machines from walls. Large surfaces can be protected with fibre optic intrusion sensors and alarm zones can be set to trigger cameras, access control or building management systems. Fiber SenSys provides a reliable, versatile and also long-lasting solution as the service life for the fibre cable is expected to be at least 20 years.

Narrow PIR detectors

OPTEX BX Shield series provide award-winning curtain detection to protect the immediate boundary of a premise and can detect intruders standing near a door, window or balcony. With a detection range of up to 24 metres, BXS can protect a whole façade with just one sensor. The series provides independent left/right detection which is very helpful for video surveillance and gives the ability to customise each side of the detection to the needs of the façade.

Interior detection

The final part of any multi-layered system would include effective interior intrusion detection to protect valuable assets and to track the movement of intruders.

The Redscan Mini Series are our compact indoor and outdoor LiDAR lasers, perfect for protecting vulnerable entry points such as skylights or covering wide areas within the interior of a site. It's also a great option for protecting valuable assets due to its customizable detection area which spans from 20cm - 20 meters depending on the desired area of detection.
