For more than 40 years, OPTEX has been leading the way in sensing technologies and developing the latest innovative solutions. Our latest solution, FlipX, is a range of indoor intrusion sensors. In this tech tip video we break down the product and take a closer look at its innovative features. The new FlipX Standard series is a Grade 2 indoor intrusion sensor designed with features that benefit the installer and end-user.

Converting wide angle to narrow corridor detection

The FlipX Standard features our innovative, time and money-saving solution – the rotatable lens. The sensor comes with the factory setting of wide detection but by simply removing the cover and flipping the lens 180 degrees you can create a whole new narrow detection area for corridors, window protection and more.

To open the cover the FlipX is fitted with an easy lock screw. 180-degree turn and the sensor pops open. To release the lens from its position there are two clips that you just need to release with a flat-headed screwdriver. The lens will pop out and you can then rotate 180 degrees and put it back in place.

When checking which status the lens is set to, both the lens and cover have the wide and narrow settings marked. Ensure that you align the correct settings with one another.

The next step to convert from wide angle to narrow corridor is to set the jumper from wide to narrow.

Adjusting the sensitivity for pet tolerance

The FlipX has been developed with a new pyroelectric element that captures a typical human shape. By doing so FlipX is able to distinguish the different shapes of humans and pets, to filter out false alarms.

Select H for high, M for medium and L for low sensitivity. Low is recommended for creating more pet immune detection.

Adjusting Microwave detection - Dual tech FlipX

The dual tech FlipX model includes microwave detection as well as infrared. FlipX Standard uses our bespoke Tough MOD 2, which unlike other microwave sensors, tailors its detection range to the IR sensor, providing higher levels of capture performance whilst mitigating false alarms.

The microwave detection pattern can be adjusted from short to long by adjusting the jumper from short to long.

Mounting the FlipX with a bracket

FlipX comes with an optional bracket. This allows for the sensor to be ceiling mounted or allows for different angles to bet set if wall mounted. The bracket is clearly marked WALL or CEILING depending on which mounting option is required. To change this, you simply unscrew the screw inside the bracket, remove and then rotate the bracket into the new position, reinsert the screw and this position is now locked.
